Small Bedroom Decor
WHAT TO DO IN SMALL SPACES AND HOW TO MAXIMIZE EVERY INCH OF YOUR ROOM.
Let me start this off by busting a myth. Painting a small room a dark or bold color will not make the room appear any smaller. The trick is furniture placement and up lighting. In my daughter’s room, Krista, I created a space perfect for my teen.
WALLPAPER IT!
We used a peel and stick wall paper from ThinkNoir to give the room an edgier vibe. I swapped out the light fixture for a black chandelier. The other three walls were painted an ice blue by Sherwin Williams. Initially when we first moved in the carpet was removed and the hardwood floors were refinished.
Furniture placement!
This 15×10 room could have been easier to style with a twin sized bed, dresser, nightstand, and desk however my daughter said she was too big for that. So I stepped my game up by adding two 24 inch nightstands that are slimmer in size and pencil lamps topped off with black and white polka dot lamp shades. Now we are still e-learning from home and a desk is most definitely needed.
I chose a leaning desk to give more floor space than a traditional desk would. I placed a full sized mirror in the corner of her bedroom which helps with the illusion that the room is bigger. We also placed a generously sized black velvet with a gold accent chair from Wayfair right in front of the mirror. Gray black out curtains were what we had on hand, so we used those which worked out perfectly. Now having chosen a very different wall paper we chose a simple yet classic bed frame.
Now I know what you’re thinking, where’s her dresser? Krista’s closet is actually perfect, I was able to use the IKEA Pax system to give her all of the drawers she was missing from an actual dresser. No one in my home truly likes carpet, we opted for a long grey throw rug to cut the chill once she first gets out of bed.
HOW MUCH DID WE SPEND?
The budget for Krista’s bedroom was to be around 3k and some think that “Woah that’s quite a budget” however I wanted quality pieces of furniture that would transition very well into a guest bedroom. Let’s be honest Krista and Kirstin, my twins, will be going to college in 2 years and we are going to want to enjoy all of our rooms thoroughly.
